SOOTHER GUIDE
To find the perfect soother for your child, it is important to consider the choice of material for the teat. Choosing the right teat is just as important because all children have different tastes and preferences. Once these choices are made, it is time to select a soother model. We offer different models to suit children of all ages. Let us guide you through the various steps below.
1. CHOICE OF MATERIAL
SILICONE
Silicone is a synthetic and completely sealed material. It is not affected by heat, air, or the like. We use silicone of the highest medical grade. However, silicone is not as durable as natural rubber, it breaks more easily if your child chews or bites the soother. Therefore, always check the soother regularly and make sure there are no bite marks on the suction part. Also, pull the suction part to check that nothing is loose or has been bitten off. The soother is BPA-free and all Esska's pacifiers are made in Sweden.
LATEX
Natural rubber is called natural latex and is produced from the sap (latex) of various plants, mainly the Kautschuk rubber tree. It is more durable than silicone but is not tight and can therefore become porous after a period of use - it can then swell and/or change shape. Rubber also ages from air and sunlight. If you notice that the suction part has bite marks, changed shape, swelled up, or feels sticky, you should change the pacifier. When choosing a soother for your child, it can be useful to know if there is a latex allergy in the family.
2. CHOICE OF TEAT
SYMMETRICAL TEAT
A distinctive feature of the symmetrical suction part is that it is straight and always ends up correctly in the mouth. The symmetrical suction part is available in soft silicone of medical grade or natural latex. Our soother models Knoppa, Chilla, and Happy all have a symmetrical suction part.
ANATOMICAL TEAT
Distinctive for the anatomical suction part is that one side of the suction part is flat and upwards, unlike the symmetrical suction part, which is straight. The anatomical suction part is available in soft silicone of medical quality or natural latex. All our Classic soothers have an anatomical suction part.
Once you've chosen between silicone and natural latex, you can start browsing among the different profiles on suction parts. The differences between them are for your child's liking and taste. Some like symmetrical profiles, and others like anatomical ones.
3. CHOICE OF SOOTHER MODEL
We have different types of shields, all with many air holes that help keep the skin dry around the mouth. In addition, should the accident happen and your child gets the entire shield in his mouth, you should not panic, but remove the soother as carefully as possible. The generous hole image in the shield means that the child can still breathe
Our wide range of soothers is suitable for babies of all ages, however it may be good to adjust with a smaller soother for the first 6 months. There we recommend one of our newborn or mini models that have a silicone suction part and where the shield is not that big.
HAPPY
The Happy soother is always positioned correctly thanks to its symmetrical shape. Additionally, it is gentle on your child's sensitive skin as the well-ventilated shield prevents skin irritation around the mouth. The pacifier is BPA-free and has a symmetrical teat made of soft, medical-grade silicone or natural latex.
In the Happy family, there are five different soothers. Happy Mini is the smallest member of the family and is recommended for newborns up to 6 months old. The Mini soother also comes with a glow-in-the-dark feature, called Happy Mini Glow. Happy Silicone, Happy Latex, and Happy Glow are suitable for children aged from 4 months up to 3 years old. Happy Glow is the night-time savior, as you can easily find it with its glow-in-the-dark feature without turning on the room lights.
CHILLA
Chilla is the successor to the Happy soother. With a new design and a more ergonomic feel, but with the same teat as Happy, our ambition is to create the world's most stylish and comfortable soother that is airy and sits well against the lips, with grooves for better airflow around the skin. The soother is BPA-free and has a symmetrical teat made of soft, medical-grade silicone or natural latex.
In the Chilla family, there are two different soothers. Chilla Lilla is the smallest member of the family and is recommended for newborns up to 6 months old. Chilla Silicone and Chilla Latex are suitable for children aged from 4 months up to 3 years old.
CLASSIC
The Classic soother features a teat that is both soft and anatomically shaped in soft, medical-grade silicone or natural latex to always fit perfectly in the child's sensitive mouth. The shield has a modern perforation pattern that allows for greater airflow, thereby preventing skin irritation. The soft rounded edges around both the perforations and the entire shield also provide a comfortable feeling against the skin.
In the Classic family, there are four different soothers. Classic Mini is the smallest member of the family and is recommended for newborns up to 6 months old. Classic Silicone, Classic Latex, and Classic Glow are suitable for children aged from 4 months up to 3 years old. Classic Glow is the night-time savior, as you can easily find it with its glow-in-the-dark feature without turning on the room lights.
KNOPPA
The shape is neutral and minimalist, with a ring. Additionally, it is gentle on your child's sensitive skin as the well-ventilated shield prevents skin irritation around the mouth. The soother is BPA-free and has a symmetrical teat made of soft, medical-grade silicone or natural latex.
In the Knoppa family, there are two different soothers: Knoppa Silicone and Knoppa Latex. The design of the soother and its teat made of soft silicone and natural latex result in a soother that is gentle on the lips and quickly becomes your child's favorite.
CARE ADVICE
Before using the soother for the first time, it should be sterilized for 5 minutes in boiling water to ensure hygiene. Make sure that the soother is not against the bottom or edges of the pan, as the high heat can damage the pacifier. Then let it cool and squeeze out any water from the suction part. The soother must not be tested or used within 30 minutes after sterilization.
Avoid washing-up liquid - running warm water is plenty and well before each use.
For your child's safety, check the product regularly
Make sure you always check the soother before use by pulling the suction part in all directions. No pacifiers are made to handle biting. Instead, replace the soother if it is damaged or weakened. Approximately every two months, we recommend that you change your baby's soother.
Avoid exposing the soother to direct sunlight or heat as this weakens the suction part.
Also do not dip the soother in medicine or something sweet as this can destroy your child's teeth.
Do not tie the soother in ribbons or strings as this poses a suffocation risk. Use Esska's Soother's Holder instead.
If by any chance the soother and shield should end up inside the baby's mouth, don't panic, the soother cannot be swallowed and contains holes for breathing in the shield. Instead, pick it out as carefully as possible.
BENEFITS OF SOOTHERS
The baby can be satisfied without lying at the breast.
Someone other than the mother can comfort the baby when it wants to suck.
If you want to stretch out in the gaps between meals, it makes it easier if you use a soother.
It may be easier to get the baby to fall asleep in bed instead of in your arms if he is sucking on a soother at the same time.
You can more easily get a child who wakes up at night to fall asleep again if you have the help of a soother.
